Core Python Programming Language
Core Python Programming Language is a beginner-level course that teaches you to write, read and debug Python programs from the ground up. You begin by setting up Python 3 and learning variables, data types, operators and console input/output, then move on to decision-making, loops and pattern matching.

The course covers strings, lists, tuples, sets and dictionaries, followed by functions, modules, the standard library and exception handling. In the final stage you work with text, CSV and JSON files, learn the basics of classes and objects, and bring your skills together in a small console project. No prior coding experience is required, so it suits school leavers, college students and working learners looking for a first programming language, and it builds the foundation for later study in web development, data analysis, automation or AI.

Python Setup, Syntax & Control Flow -1

Get Python running and learn the building blocks of every program: data types, operators, input/output, decisions and loops.

  • What Python is and where it is used
  • Installing Python 3 and using an editor; interactive shell vs scripts
  • Indentation, comments and PEP 8 naming style
  • Variables, numbers, booleans, strings and type conversion
  • Arithmetic, comparison and logical operators; operator precedence
  • Console input and output with input() and print()
  • Decisions with if / elif / else and match-case
  • while and for loops, range(), break, continue, pass
  • Reading error messages and debugging simple programs
Strings & Data Collections -2

Store, organise and transform data using Python’s built-in string and collection types.

  • String indexing, slicing and common string methods
  • Formatting output with f-strings
  • Lists: adding, removing, sorting and slicing items
  • Tuples, packing and unpacking
  • Sets and set operations
  • Dictionaries: keys, values, iteration and nesting
  • Introductory list and dictionary comprehensions
  • Mutable vs immutable types and copying collections
Functions, Modules & Exception Handling -3

Organise code into reusable functions and modules, use the standard library, and handle errors cleanly.

  • Defining functions and returning values
  • Positional, keyword and default arguments; *args and **kwargs
  • Local and global scope
  • Lambda functions and basic recursion
  • Useful built-ins: len, sorted, enumerate, zip, sum
  • Importing modules and creating your own
  • Standard library essentials: math, random, datetime, os / pathlib
  • Installing packages with pip and using virtual environments
  • Built-in exceptions; try, except, else, finally and raise
  • Creating user-defined exceptions
File Handling, OOP Basics & Mini Project -4

Save and load data with files, take your first steps in object-oriented programming, and apply everything in a small project.

  • Opening files safely with with; file modes and UTF-8 encoding
  • Reading and writing text files
  • Working with CSV files using the csv module
  • Reading and writing JSON data
  • Classes and objects, __init__, attributes and methods
  • Introduction to inheritance
  • Mini console project combining collections, functions, files and classes

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this course

No. The course starts from installing Python and writing your first program. Candidates who have completed 10th standard are eligible.

The course runs for 60 days and is available in both online and offline modes.

Variables, data types, operators, input/output, conditions and loops; strings, lists, tuples, sets and dictionaries; functions, modules and exception handling; and file handling (text, CSV, JSON) with an introduction to classes and objects.

Yes. You learn to read and write files safely with with open(), work with CSV and JSON data, handle errors with try/except/else/finally, and create your own exception classes.

Core Python introduces classes, objects, constructors, methods and basic inheritance. Deeper OOP, along with GUI programming, regular expressions and databases, is covered in CITC’s Advance Python Language (APL) course.

Core Python builds the language foundation: syntax, data structures, functions, files and errors. APL builds on it with topics such as Tkinter GUI programming, OOP concepts, regular expressions, databases, networking and multithreading.

You learn Python 3, the only version line in active use today. The fundamentals taught apply across current Python 3 releases.

You can write small programs and automation scripts. Core Python is the base for further study in web development with Django or Flask, data analysis, automation, or AI and machine learning.

Yes. CITC provides its own certificate after successful completion of the course. It is a CITC course certificate, not a Python Institute (PCEP) certification; PCEP is a separate exam that learners can book independently
